Michael O'Hara

Michael O'Hara sent a couple of photos of the 1500cc Elva Courrier he owned and raced in 1961. He goes on to say..."These were taken at the Marlboro Raceway, then located in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, USA. Thru campaigning this car I met Mark Donohue and his mechanic Lew Schulz. Mark and I co-drove an evening 6 hour SCCA event which ran from late afternoon into the dark. This race was open to all classes of SCCA automobiles and after two hours. Mark Donohue was running 2nd overall My God how he could drive.

I ran a "novice" race in this car and it went so well that the committee discussed "tearing down" my car to see if it had been "modified"... The next day, Mark took my car out for some practice laps..and took 5 seconds a lap off my fastest lap time..although he had only driven my car for a total of the 5 laps he drove it at this track in Cumberland, Maryland (airport track.)

...I hope you enjoy the photos, a little USA race history.. and my words of tribute to Mark Donohue..a great driver."
